## Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

## Description

IPBES is an independent intergovernmental body established to provide policymakers with scientific assessments on the state of biodiversity, ecosystems, and the benefits they provide to people. It identifies tools and methods to protect and sustainably use natural assets, while promoting dialogue between scientists, governments, civil society, and Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs).

Lemu aligns with IPBES in advancing the science–policy interface. Atlas indicators are designed to complement biodiversity assessments, and Gaia integrates ecosystem data that can support IPBES-aligned research and policy dialogue.

### Examples in Practice

💡

A ****national government** uses IPBES global assessment findings to design policies for halting deforestation and safeguarding biodiversity hotspots.

💡

An international ****financial** institution incorporates IPBES scenarios into risk models to evaluate long-term ecosystem service decline.

💡

A ****university** consortium collaborates with IPBES to strengthen Indigenous knowledge integration into ecosystem restoration strategies.
